1. Overview
FairSplit ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Key principle: The FairSplit calculator is designed for privacy-first, anonymous use. We do not intentionally collect or store personal data within the calculator inputs and do not require users to provide identifying information to use the calculator.
However, limited technical and transactional data (such as IP addresses, device information, and payment confirmations) may be processed by our infrastructure and payment providers in order to operate the Service securely and effectively. This data is not used to identify individual users or linked to calculator inputs.
We also use privacy-conscious analytics tools (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) to improve usability. All sensitive calculator inputs are masked.
2. Data Controller
FairSplit Ltd (Company No. 16837723, registered in England and Wales) is the data controller for any data processed through this site.
Contact details are provided in Section 12.
3. What Data We Collect
Personal Data
We do not intentionally collect or store the following types of personal data within the calculator:
- Names
- Addresses
- Email addresses (except for payment confirmation)
- Phone numbers
- National Insurance numbers
- Pension member numbers
- Dates of birth
Financial Data You Enter
During use, you may input pension-related financial figures (e.g. cash equivalent values, ages, retirement dates). This data:
- Is processed in your browser session only
- Is not stored on our servers
- Is not linked to your identity
- Disappears once you close your session
Users are responsible for ensuring that they do not input personally identifiable information into the calculator. The Service is designed to operate using anonymised financial data only.
If personal data is entered inadvertently, it is processed transiently within the browser session and is not stored by FairSplit.
Payment Data
Payments are handled via Stripe. We receive:
- Confirmation that payment was successful
- Transaction reference number (not card details)
Card and billing details are processed directly by Stripe, a PCI-DSS compliant provider.
Analytics Data
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for anonymised, aggregated website usage data. This includes:
- Page views and session duration
- Device and browser type
- Approximate location (city/region level)
Microsoft Clarity
We use Microsoft Clarity to help understand user behaviour on our website, such as which pages users visit and how they interact with elements on the screen.
Clarity collects:
- Click and scroll behaviour
- Device/browser information
- General interaction patterns
- Anonymised session recordings and heatmaps
Clarity does not capture pension values, dates of birth, names, or other sensitive inputs. These fields are automatically masked before any data is sent.
Professional demonstration access
When you request access to the FairSplit professional demonstration, we collect your name, work email address, firm or organisation, professional role, preferred route and marketing preference. We may also record a limited source classification showing how the demonstration was accessed.
We use this information to provide access to the demonstration and to follow up about your interest in FairSplit. Access to the demonstration does not depend on agreeing to receive marketing emails.
Visitors may also use the Send Demo form to ask FairSplit to email the recorded demonstration. We collect the visitor’s name, work email address, firm or organisation, any optional indication of what would be most useful, and their separate optional marketing preference. We use the required details to respond to and fulfil the specific request. We use the details for future marketing only where the visitor has actively selected the optional marketing checkbox.
If you choose to receive occasional FairSplit emails, these may include product updates, professional guidance and invitations. You can unsubscribe or change your preference at any time. Choosing not to receive these emails does not prevent access to the demonstration.
Demonstration-form submissions are processed through Formspree on FairSplit’s behalf. Formspree receives the information entered into the form so that the submission can be delivered to FairSplit.
The demonstration may include videos hosted by Loom or another identified video provider. Those providers may process technical information, such as IP address, device information and viewing activity, in accordance with their own privacy terms.
We generally retain demonstration-lead information for up to 24 months following the most recent meaningful interaction, unless a longer period is required for a specific legal reason. Where you have chosen to receive FairSplit marketing communications, we may retain your contact details and marketing preference while you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we may retain the minimum information necessary to record and respect that preference.
If FairSplit later uses Klaviyo to manage professional communications, relevant demonstration-lead information may be transferred to Klaviyo. Marketing communications will only be sent where the recorded marketing preference permits them.
You may contact FairSplit to request access to, correction of or deletion of your information, or to object to or restrict its use where those rights apply. You may unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email or contacting FairSplit.
4. How We Use Your Data
We process minimal data strictly to:
- Deliver our service (e.g. real-time pension division calculation)
- Verify and record your payment transaction
- Provide access to the professional demonstration and follow up about your interest in FairSplit
- Send occasional FairSplit communications where your recorded marketing preference permits them
- Understand and improve user experience through anonymised analytics
- Conduct usability analysis via anonymised session recordings and heatmaps (Microsoft Clarity), with sensitive inputs masked
- Meet legal obligations (e.g. accounting records)
We do not conduct profiling or automated decision-making. We send marketing communications only where the recorded marketing preference permits them.
5. Data Storage and Retention
Calculation Data: Not stored. All inputs are processed client-side only.
Payment Data: Basic transaction records (date, amount, ref) are stored for 7 years in accordance with UK tax and financial regulations.
Analytics Data: Retained by Google Analytics for up to 26 months, in anonymised form.
Demonstration-lead Data: Generally retained for up to 24 months following the most recent meaningful interaction, unless a longer period is required for a specific legal reason. Where you remain subscribed to FairSplit marketing communications, we may retain your contact details and preference while you remain subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we may retain the minimum information necessary to record and respect that preference.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following trusted providers:
Stripe
Payment processing (see Stripe's Privacy Policy)
Analytics Providers
Google Analytics (GA4)
Used for aggregated usage analytics such as page views, session length, device type, and flow through the calculator. GA4 anonymises data and does not include pension inputs or personally identifying information. (See Google's Privacy Policy)
Microsoft Clarity
Used for behavioural analytics, heatmaps, and anonymised session replay. FairSplit enables automatic data masking, ensuring that sensitive information (e.g. pension values, ages, dates of birth, names) is not visible in any recording.
Clarity does not allow us to identify individual users. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement for more details.
Formspree
We use Formspree to process and deliver submissions from the professional demonstration access form. Formspree processes the information entered into that form on FairSplit’s behalf. See Formspree’s privacy policy for details of its processing practices.
Video hosting
Demonstration videos may be hosted by Loom or another identified video provider. Loading or playing an embedded video may allow that provider to process technical information about the visitor and their interaction with the video, in accordance with the provider’s privacy terms.
Render / Hosting Provider
Infrastructure logs may temporarily capture IP addresses for technical and security reasons. These are not linked to any user profile and are periodically deleted.
These providers may process limited personal data (such as IP address or device identifiers) for service delivery, security, payment processing or the other purposes described above. Depending on the service and processing involved, a provider may process information on FairSplit’s behalf or act as an independent data controller under its own terms.
No personal data is shared for commercial, advertising or profiling purposes.
Our service providers may process data in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, or other jurisdictions in accordance with their own data processing terms and applicable data protection laws.
Data Processing Role
FairSplit Ltd generally acts as a data controller for the demonstration-lead, technical and transactional data described in this policy.
The calculator is designed to operate without collecting or storing identifiable client information. This is separate from the professional information intentionally provided through the demonstration access form.
Demonstration-lead information is used to provide access, follow up about FairSplit interest and, where the recorded preference permits, send occasional professional communications. Other incidental processing, such as infrastructure logs or payment records, is limited to service delivery, security and legal compliance.
7. Your Rights Under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access any personal data we hold (if any)
- Request correction or deletion of that data
- Restrict or object to certain types of processing
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
The calculator does not store identifiable input data. These rights may apply to demonstration-lead, payment, technical or other limited personal information described in this policy. Please contact us if you wish to exercise them (Section 12).
8. Data Security
We take data security seriously and implement the following controls:
- HTTPS encryption across the entire site
- No storage of identifiable calculator inputs on FairSplit servers
- Stripe Checkout for secure, PCI-DSS compliant payment processing
- Rate limiting and access controls
- Security patching and periodic reviews
Despite this, no digital system is 100% secure. We continuously monitor and reduce risk but cannot guarantee complete immunity from threats.
Access to infrastructure and administrative systems is restricted to authorised personnel only. We follow a principle of least privilege and maintain appropriate access controls.
The Service is designed to minimise data risk by avoiding server-side storage of user inputs. We do not maintain user accounts or persistent user profiles.
We maintain an ongoing process of monitoring, dependency updates, and security patching appropriate to the scale and nature of the Service.
10. Professional Indemnity and Liability
FairSplit Ltd is covered by professional indemnity and cyber liability insurance underwritten by Hiscox Insurance Company Ltd (Policy No. PSC10003806290). This protects our business against claims relating to:
- Calculation errors
- Misuse of data
- Cyber breaches or system failures
This cover is part of our commitment to secure, responsible and trustworthy service delivery — but FairSplit reports remain indicative only and do not constitute legal or financial advice.
11. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Material changes will be notified on the homepage or via email if relevant.
